In this deeply moving book of quotes and essays, Maggie writes about new beginnings as opportunities for transformation. Like kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending broken ceramics with gold, Keep Moving celebrates the beauty and strength on the other side of loss. This is a book for anyone who has gone through a difficult time and is wondering: What comes next?Book Keep Moving: Notes on Loss, Creativity, and Change Review :
A wonderfully composed piece in every way. The words speak to me both like scripture and a therapist. The importance of holding multiple feelings, such as "feeling joy is not betraying your grief" is iterated like a painting, each composition speaking differently to the viewer. I particularly love the depth and maturity in the words. Maggie has clearly felt her feelings and not supressed them. For that reason, this is not a coffee table book. To be appreciated, savor slowly. Take time to sit in the sun and imagine the future, while honoring the past, but living in the present. As a graphic designer, I love everything about this hard copy. The colors are vibrant, the text is chunked in a digestable way which encourages the reader to meditate and take time with each poem. As another reviewer mentioned, there is an instance where the white text is difficult to read on the turquoise color block. This is an isolated incident on page 6. Hopefully something that can be corrected before future print runs. It would not stop me from buying more copies of this wonderfully raw and inspiring piece. I saw this book previewed on a TV show about the time it came out. The show gave it a great review and the author read several passages of her work. It was about the time when we were all reeling from the COVID shutdown and great losses it brought. The words resonated with me.I didn't sit down and read it through when it arrived, but I've picked it up numerous times since and read a poem or essay here and there. Some books you buy tell a story and are intended to be read from cover to cover. This one isn't (in my mind) but it could be. Instead, I find myself leafing through the various pieces and reading. The thoughts it inspires wander through my mind for days ... and I like that.
